Student Council organizes a variety of annual events to bring together the community, showcase student work, and raise money for causes important to us.

Putting for Patients

The WHS Student Council hosts an indoor mini-golf course at Winchester High School! At this event, there are putting greens, a hole-in-one competition, caricatures, face painting, and a raffle! All proceeds go to the Jimmy Fund to support a leading pediatric cancer specialist at Dana Farber. Friends, family, students, and other community members can join us and participate in a fun game of mini-golf as well as the other attractions mentioned.

Breast Cancer Awareness

Since 2018, we have donated our money raised from our annual Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser to to the local Lahey Breast Care Center. In December 2018, we were given the opportunity to visit the Breast Care Center to deliver our donation as well as tour the facility with doctors and other staff who enthusiastically showed us how our donation would be dedicated to special projects. In January 2020, we returned to the Breast Care Center for another meet and greet with the Center’s staff.

In the last five years of hosting this event, we have raised over $4,000 for breast cancer and have matched this figure with money from our own funds.

Night of the Arts (NOTA)

Night of the Arts (NOTA) is one of Student Council’s most profound productions. In early spring, this community event, open to the public, displays the most creative artwork, ranging from drawings; paintings; sculptures; videos; films; photographs; and live performances, our students and faculty have to offer. NOTA is a night to remember! It is time to appreciate and support the artistic talents to be found at WHS. Last year’s NOTA theme focused on the environment, featuring special exhibits around nature and climate awareness. Join us for a night filled with talent and fun!

Valentine’s Day Carnations

Student Council sells carnations for Valentine’s Day! Parents and students are able to buy flowers for their friends and write them a note beforehand. On Valentine’s Day, hundreds of carnations are delivered to students throughout WHS.

Last February, Student Council sold a record number of over 500 carnations! The money raised was put into our student council account to be used in our annual donations.

Pep Rally

The Student Council organizes WHS’s annual pep rally, as well as the Spirit Half-Week right before it. The 2019 pep rally included well-loved mainstays like the chorus singing the National Anthem and the football/cheer team’s dance, as well as new events like a thrilling student-teacher dodgeball tournament!
